Wow, what a year we’ve been through, when you think back to where we were last year. Thank you for all your hard work and resilience, adapting through so many changes. You stepped up to meet the challenges and proved how amazing Carlsbad employees are.
And now, we are going through another transition of returning to the office. You may be feeling stressed or anxious about these changes, and that’s normal. Reach out to friends, your CCEA rep, your supervisor, and use the EAP benefits that are available to all employees.
We’ve included information on telecommuting, sick leave, and our upcoming CCEA picnic in this newsletter, that we hope you find helpful.

CCEA PICNIC
We are excited to be planning our next CCEA picnic in August!!

in-person picnic for all our members.
Telecommuting
On June 13th, the City Manager announced that all city employees will return to their normal work locations or working remotely with an approved telecommuting plan in place.
CCEA encourages all members to fill out the telecommute application. Your supervisor will have received information regarding how to access applications by June 13th. Those that submitted applications prior to May 31st will have their application considered by the June 13th return date.
CCEA encourages discussion with your supervisor regarding your agreed upon telecommuting schedule. All items listed in the telecommuting policy must be agreed upon in order to approve telecommuting, i.e. fire extinguishers, emergency exits, etc. CCEA encourages familiarizing oneself with the telecommuting policy.
The CCEA has adopted the City’s telecommuting policy. All employees should be in discussion with their supervisors regarding an agreed upon telecommuting scheduled, if the position permits. Telecommuting allowances are defined by the department directors. Should there be concerns regarding telecommuting, CCEA recommends reaching out to HR.
The City of Carlsbad is unique in offering telecommuting to available positions. The City Manager will revisit after 90 days to review telecommuting conditions.
Being Sick and What it Means if You’re Going to the Office
Now that we are going back to the office, a cough or a cold is definitely viewed differently, especially since many symptoms are shared with COVID-19.
If you are sick and are unable to pass the COVID-related questions to enter a city building, you should stay home. You should talk with your health care provider, your supervisor, and possibly HR about next steps.
You have several options available that depend on your situation, mostly related to any possible exposure to COVID. Telecommuting can be an option, with supervisor approval, if you are well enough to work and perform those portions of your job that you can do remotely.
If you are sick because of COVID or possible COVID exposure, you should notify your supervisor and HR, as you may be eligible for COVID -related leave.
Ultimately, you should not come back to work until you are no longer sick, and can pass the COVID questions. Reach out to us or to HR if you have questions about your specific situation.
